Mission Statement: School Committee
In an effort to achieve the highest excellence in the Catholic education experience for our children and within the guidelines established by the Diocese of Charleston, the Saint Gregory the Great School Committee mission is to provide the opportunity for a Catholic elementary school education for Saint Gregory the Great parishioners and qualifying others by working in concert with the Parish Building Committee and Finance Committee, the Diocesan Building Commission and Finance Office, and other parish-formed committees to assist with the design, financing, curriculum, accreditation, and construction of an elementary school within the conceptual Master Plan for Saint Gregory the Great campus.
Overview of the School
Saint Gregory the Great got underway with a pre-K and Kindergarten program held at Saint Andrew Hall in 2006-2007. On August 21, 2007, the school opened with 7 classes, pre-K through Grade 5. Grade 6 will be added in 2008, with grades 7 and 8 added each year thereafter. LS3P of Charleston designed the school, and Shelco, Inc., of Bluffton is the contractor. With three Catholic schools in the area (Saint Peter in Beaufort and Saint Francis by the Sea in Hilton Head, in addition to Saint Gregory the Great), there are studies underway, with parishioner participation, to plan for a new diocesan middle school and/or high school to be located in the Okatie area.
Sister M. Canice Adams, SSCM, PhD, former diocesan superintendent, is the founding Principal of SGG School.
