 “Those who sing pray twice” is a well known concept among those in liturgical ministry.  At Saint Gregory the Great, we have the benefit of many skilled musicians and many eager voices ready to be raised in musical prayer.

 

Saint Gregory musical ensembles are offered for children and adults in a variety of settings:

The Saint Gregory Chorale
 
  

The Saint Gregory Chorale is composed men and women of the parish (ages 16 and older). The choir ministers alternately at the 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Sunday Masses and specializes in mixed-part musical repertoire while fulfilling its mission to encourage the active participation of the assembly.  Rehearsals are Thursdays from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the choir loft.

Lazarus Choir 
  
The Lazarus Choir is an ensemble of adults ages 18 and over who are available to sing at funerals in our parish.  There is a short rehearsal one-half hour before the scheduled service, and two additional rehearsals twice yearly to add new repertoire.

Spanish Music Ensemble 
  

The Hispanic Ensemble ministers weekly at the 1:00 p.m. Hispanic Mass.  Open to all people ages 14 and older, this group additionally will augment special services and celebrations throughout the year.  Rehearsals follow the weekly Mass from approximately 2:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m

Children of Saint Gregory
 
  
The Children of Saint Gregory is an ensemble open to all children of the church in grades three through six without audition.  This group will sing the 11 a.m. mass on Christmas Day and on Palm Sunday, in addition to other special times during the liturgical year.

Jubilate Schola 
  

Jubilate Schola is the auditioned chorus of children of our church in grades four through six.  Auditions are held in September for the 16 available positions.  This group ministers at various masses monthly.  This group follows the Voices for Life music curriculum of the Royal Academy of Church Musicians and receives a small stipend.

 The Liturgy Scholars Program

 
  
 The Liturgy Scholars Program consists of members of the Jubilate Schola selected to serve in specific musical areas of liturgy based on achievement and interest.  Scholars are appointed for one year in the areas of Church Music Administration, Cantor Ministry, Choral Conducting, and Accompanying.

 Angelus Handbell Ensemble

 
  

 The Angelus Handbell Ensemble meets Mondays September through May from 6:15 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.  in the choir loft.  The bells minister at a variety of Masses and events throughout the liturgical year.  Linda Burkett directs this group.

 Psalto Liturgical Dance Ensemble

 
  
 If movement for spiritual interpretation speaks to you, check out the Psalto Liturgical Dance Ensemble.   This group meets at 6:00 p.m. Tuesdays in the church for about an hour and learns spirit-filled routines that will be used as preludes and ministry opportunities for special services outside of Mass.  It also will be used  as an outreach in the community for non-denominational gatherings and for nursing homes and assisted living  facilities.  This is a beautiful way to create community while staying fit!

 The Women's Ensemble

 
  
The Women’s Ensemble will be open to all women of the parish ages 18 and older and will sing the 2nd Sunday of each month at the Vigil Mass.  They rehearse the Thursday evening prior to the Saturday Mass  from 6:00 p.m. - 6:45 p.m. in the choir loft.

 The Men of Saint Gregory

 
  
The Men of Saint Gregory is a tenor and bass ensemble that ministers at special masses, on Feast days,  and for special musical performances in the parish. Rehearsals will be scheduled as needed at 6 p.m. Thursdays before the scheduled event.  Membership is open to all men of the parish.  Please call Lisa Screeton for more

 Schola Cantorum

 
  
 Schola Cantorum consists of an auditioned madrigal-type group that will do predominantly Latin and traditional works and will sing monthly at various Masses.  This group rehearses the 4th Thursday of the month from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. in the choir loft.

 Cantor Ministry

 
 
Cantor Ministry is available to all singers who participate in any of the vocal ensembles at Saint Gregory.  Cantors are trained under the guidelines of the National Pastoral Musicians organization and receive ongoing training.  Cantors are scheduled monthly.

 Instrumental Ensembles

 
 Instrumental Ensembles are formed when players are available.  If you play an instrument and would like to minister at a Mass, please contact the Director of Music and arrange a meeting.
