“Those who sing pray twice,” is a well known saying among those in liturgical ministry. At Saint Gregory the Great, we have the benefit of many skilled musicians and many eager voices ready to be raised in musical prayer.
The Saint Gregory the Great Chorale
The Chorale is composed of men and women of the parish. This choir alternates at the 9:00 a.m. or 11:00 a.m. Sunday or 4:00 p.m. Vigil Mass and specializes in mixed-part musical repertoire while fulfilling its mission to encourage the active participation of the singing assembly. Rehearsals are held Thursday evenings from 6:30 - 7:45 p.m. September through May in the Church Choir Loft. Contact Tom Tiehel for more information.
The Angelus Ringers
Adult handbell ensemble for beginning and experienced ringers/singers. This ensemble rings 3 octaves of Malmark Handbells and Malmark Choir Chimes. They follow the same schedule as the Saint Gregory the Great Chorale and is open to all Chorale Singers and non-singers as a music educational tool to improve their musical reading skills and development of handbell technique and musicality. Schola Cantorum
Schola Cantorum consists of a group of select singers who will sing predominately Latin and/or traditional works and sing at various Masses. This Schola rehearses on Thursday 7:50 – 8:30 p.m. in the Church choir loft. Contact Tom Tiehel for more information.
Lazarus Singers
The Lazarus Singers is an ensemble composed of members 18 and older who are available to sing for funerals and memorial Masses in our parish. There is a short rehearsal one-half hour before the scheduled funeral normally at 10 a.m.
Spanish Music Ensemble
The Hispanic Ensemble, “Voces del Alma,” ministers weekly at the 12:45 p.m. Sunday Spanish Mass. Open to all people, ages 14 and older, this group will augment special services and celebrations throughout the year. Rehearsals follow the 12:45 p.m. Mass each Sunday. Cherub Choir & Chimers
The Cherub choir offers singing, ringing, weekly fundamentals activities and rhythm instruments for children in grades K – 2. The children will sing every six weeks at the 11 a.m. Mass, concerts and music festivals. Rehearsals are held Thursday afternoons 3:00 – 3:30 p.m. Contact Tom Tiehel for information.
(Grades K-6) Religious and Public School Singers rehearse on Tuesday evenings 4:30 – 5:15.
Joyful Praise Singers & Ringers
Joyful Praise is an ensemble for children in our parish in grades 3 – 8. Joyful Praise sings a variety of repertoire, unison, 2-part and 3-part anthems. Each singer rings in the Handbell / Choir chime ensemble to teach music fundamentals and note reading. The Joyful Praise Singers & Ringers sing monthly at the Sunday 11:00 a.m. Mass, Saturday 4:00 p.m. Mass, 4:00 p.m. Christmas Eve, Palm Sunday, Holy Thursday and Good Friday. Weekly
practices are held Tuesday afternoons 4:30 – 5:20 p.m. in the Church Choir Loft. Contact Tom Tiehel or Linda Burkett (843-368- 5165) for information.
Saint Gregory Youth Singers & Ringers
7 – 12 graders are invited to participate in this “new” teen choir. This choir rehearses Monday nights 6:30 – 7:15 p.m. and sings at the Sunday 5:00 p.m. Mass. The Youth sing for the 6:30 p.m. Christmas Eve Mass and performs for Fall Festival of Music and concerts as planned. The choir will sing unison, 2-part, 3-part & 4-part music. The goal is singing at weekly Masses, concerts, perform an annual musical and go on a choir tour. Handbells are included with this ensemble. Ringing 3 octaves Malmark Handbells.
