Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion
Deacon Denny Burkett
843-815-3100 x 330
The privilege of bringing the Eucharist to the sick and assisting with the distribution of Holy Communion at parish liturgies is extended, within the guidelines of Church law, to members of the parish who are called to serve in this ministry.A period of training and occasional retraining is required for those delegated this special role in the sacramental ministry of the Church.
Extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion serve according to a pre-arranged schedule and also may be asked to assist as needed.
The Altar Guild is devoted to the care of the worship environment at Saint Gregory the Great. It assumes the responsibility for purifying and laundering the altar coverings and small linens used for Mass. This is an ideal ministry for parishioners who cannot attend many meetings but would like to make a contribution to the heart of parish life. Members select weeks suiting their own schedules and sign up on a calendar posted in the sacristy. Individual training is provided and all work is done in the member's home.
Young people who have received their First Communion and are active in Catholic school or parish religious education are eligible for training as altar servers.Interested students should watch parish bulletins for announcements of times and places for this training.Altar servers assist at weekend Masses, special celebrations, and holy day Masses.
The Flower Guild is a group of dedicated men and women responsible for the altar flowers for the weekend liturgies, outdoor plants and holiday decor for the parish.floral design experience is not required. Volunteers participate on a weekly basis either byfresh flowers, and maintaining those arrangements, or byfor the outdoor container plantings. All work together to prepare the church and chapel for the major feasts of the church year. The group meetstotimes a year for planning purposes and uses e-mail/phone for routine scheduling.

Saint Gregory the Great is a welcoming parish, made more so by the men and women who volunteer to extend the spirit of hospitality to parishioners and visitors each week.Greeters arrive at least 30 minutes Mass begins and hand out a copy of the bulletin to each person arriving at Mass. Aside from welcoming parishioners, at the end of Mass greeters go through the pews and straighten up by raising kneelers that have been left down and picking up bulletins anditems left in the pews.
There are no special meetings.A brief orientation precedes scheduling, according to the greeter’s availability.
Lectors proclaim the Word of God at parish liturgies. Those who volunteer to read the Scriptures for fellow parishioners at Mass and at other sacramental occasions prepare for their public proclaiming of God’s word by reflective private reading of the Scriptures and articulation and delivery of God’s Word.
Lectors, who attend periodic training sessions provided in the parish, are volunteers with a willingness to serve and a thirst for the Word of God.

The parish ushers assist parishioners and the Pastor at liturgies on weekends and on holy days by seating parishioners and visitors and gathering collections. Both male and female parishioners age 15 and beyond are eligible to serve as ushers, after appropriate orientation to procedures.
The Wedding Coordinator Ministry is open to adult members of St. Gregory the Great Church. The responsibility of the coordinator is to assist the wedding celebrant to insure that the wedding rehearsal and wedding run smoothly. Volunteers select weekends that suit their own schedules and sign up on the schedule to attend the rehearsal and wedding, a short commitment of several hours. The Wedding Coordinators work closely with Father, the Music Director, and the bridal party on the weekend of the wedding. The Wedding Coordinators work in pairs or for a larger wedding three people may be assigned. There are no special meetings but an orientation for new Wedding Coordinators precedes their scheduling.
