Welcome to Our Saint Gregory The Great
Catholic Church Website!

Welcome to the website of Saint Gregory the Great Church in Bluffton, South Carolina.  We’re a history-making congregation of Catholic people for several reasons.

One is the heritage of the Pinckney family, settlers of this Lowcountry region near Hilton Head who kept the faith, built their own family chapel, and expanded sufficiently to become a parish, Saint Andrew Church, in 1960.

A second reason that we’re history-making is the unprecedented growth of this parish family.  From 1995 to the present, the parish has increased its membership by more than 5,000 souls.  We were renamed Saint Gregory the Great Church in the year 2000, when a new, expansive parish facility was built to house a church and to begin  developing an ambitious master plan for educational and other ministerial facilities.  From beginnings with South Carolina planters and educators, the parish membership now includes a people from a diversity of professional backgrounds and racial, ethnic, and regional origins.

A third reason that we’re news makers is that the parish is noted for our volunteer spirit.  A prayerful and devout group of Catholics, we’re very active in service to church, civic community, and persons in need.
Faith, family, and fellowship characterize us.  Read on, and know that here amid marshlands and marvelous seascapes, there is a parish full of people who hold you in prayer.

Help Our Brothers and Sisters in Haiti

Our Church mourns the terrible suffering of our brothers and sisters in Haiti. The 7.0 magnitude earthquake that ravaged Haiti on January 12, 2010, has already claimed thousands of lives including the Catholic Archbishop of Port-au-Prince, priests, men and women religious, and seminarians. It has destroyed countless homes, churches, seminaries, schools, and other buildings and has left millions without the most basic necessities of life. Our faith compels us to pray for and reach out to our brothers and sisters in their time of suffering.

A special collection was taken up at all Masses the weekend of January 16-17. If you missed this collection and wish to make a donation, go to the Catholic Relief Services website (crs.org)
and follow the links for donating. For a people who have nothing every little bit helps. Due to a heavy volume of responses, this website may take a while to open.

More information on Haiti and other topics of importance to Catholics can be found at the United States Council of Catholic Bishops website - usccb.org
