Faith Formation and Christian Education | PREP INFORMATION 2010-2011 PREP Registration deadline Friday, August 20th at 1:15 pm-No re-registration forms will be accepted after the 20th until further notice. New parishioners will be accepted in the program with their parish registration.
PREP payment is due on or before September 15th.
Your child has been placed in your first choice session unless you have been notified. (Sorry, we can only accept emails with questions regarding placement)
We will begin with Orientations/First Class- ONE PARENT and child/children- Just like previous year…. For levels One to Eight
Sunday Session- will attend on Tuesday, September 7th – Church at 4:30 p.m.
Wednesday “A” Session- will attend on Wednesday, September 8th- Church at 4:30 PM
Wednesday “B’ Session – will attend on Wednesday, September 8th– Church at 6:15 PM.
Pre-K and K will begin on Sunday, September 12th in the School at 9:15 am

CONFIRMATION-

RCIC sessions- older children receiving First Reconciliation and First Communion - levels 4th, 5th and 6th, will begin on Sunday October 3rd at 9:15 to 10:30 am in the school.

Registration form (English) Registración de Educación | | Religious Education, Pre-K through Grade 8 | | | | In the spirit of service exemplified in the life of Saint Gregory the Great, the parish religious education program responds to the disciples’ mandate from Christ to go into the whole world and teach the Good News. The education of mind and spirit is the goal of the parish religious education program, which enrolls children from Pre-K through grade 8. Through the moral and religious formation of the parish’s young people, Saint Gregory the Great parish strives to foster a spirit of community, manifested in a deep respect for one another, an atmosphere of prayer and worship, and a spirit of stewardship.
The Religious Education program accepts its responsibility as co-educators with the family and the larger Church in providing a solid catechetical experience for children. | | Back to Top | | | | Confirmation Classes | | | | As noted under Sacraments, this sacrament of initiation, entails a two-year period of preparation. Regular classes for 7th and 8th grade students are held weekly on Wednesday evenings.

| | Back to Top | | | | Junior Youth Ministry | | | | Middle school-age youth of the parish—that is, students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grades—are invited to join the parish’s junior youth ministry, an activity oriented program which meets the 1st &n3rd Tuesdays of each month throughout the school year. | | Back to Top | | | | Senior Youth Ministry | | | | Every week, on Sunday evenings, the parish’s high school age students are invited to join in activities focused on fun and service. A component of Christian education is built in, too, with activities focused on the vibrant role of youth in the life of the Church. .They have conducted fund-raisers, a ski-trip and attended the diocesan Youth Conference in March. They join in and frequently host the Exalt! (XLT!) program for the Lowcountry deanery. Exalt! Is a youth-centered monthly gathering for faith talks and Eucharistic adoration. | | Back to Top | | | | Adult Religious Education | | | | Saint Gregory the Great offers diverse programs for adult religious education. The parish uses Little Rock Bible Study, the Great Adventure Bible program (a 24-week program also sometimes referred to as “Bible Timeline”), monthly Topics in Theology, and a Catholic Book Club as some of the ways in which adult Catholics can deepen their faith and their understanding of the Catholic faith tradition. A bi-ennial parish mission and occasional seminars also provide enrichment and additional opportunities for deeper understanding of the faith. | | Back to Top | | | | RCIA | | | | The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults has been established by the Church as a process whereby those seeking to enter into the life of the Church, or those seeking to complete their initiation into Catholic life, may enter into a period of instruction, discernment, and companionship with others on a similar journey. Members of the parish who are willing to serve as mentors and sponsors join those discerning deeper involvement in Catholic life. Participants can enter into this year-round process at any point. Typically eight to nine months of participation is required for the completion of the catechumenate (preparation for Baptism) or candidacy for First Eucharist and/or Confirmation, but preparation may be extended to three years, depending on the individual’s situation. The program is Scripture-based, using the lectionary of readings for the Church’s Sunday liturgies, and doctrinal, focusing on an adult understanding of Catholic teachings. The mode of discernment, which emphasizes response to the promptings of the Holy Spirit in one’s life, pervades the RCIA process. Weekly meetings, ordinarily on Tuesday evenings, prepare participants for the various stages, or rites, by which the Church marks acceptance, election, initiation, full communion, and “mystagogia” (reflection on the Christian mysteries) which celebrate a person’s entry into the life of the Church. | | Back to Top | | | | RCIA for Children | | | | This is the same process as above but adapted for children who are at the age of reason (usually 7 years old and older). | | Back to Top | | | | Catechist Preparation | | | | At present, each parish of the Diocese of Charleston is responsible for providing formation for its catechists. Those teaching in the parish religious education program are encouraged to participate in adult religious education opportunities, workshops and programs sponsored by CADRE (Coastal Association of Directors of Religious Education), and other training programs for Christian leaders and Catholic teachers of the faith. In January 2007, a Lowcountry deanery-led catechist formation program began with a cycle of topics planned. Every catechist and volunteer assistant is required to complete VIRTUS training, mandated by the Diocese of Charleston and many Catholic dioceses throughout the nation. This program focuses on awareness of the problem of child sexual abuse and abuse of the elderly and vulnerable. | | Back to Top | | | | Catholics Coming Home | | | | Described as “an open door for returning Catholics,” this program is offered each year after Christmas and Easter, times when Catholics who have been away from the practice of the faith may be moved to take another look. Announcements at Masses, in special cards and flyers, and outreach from individual parishioners help prompt people to participate in this 6-week program of videos, presentations, and dialogue designed for those who were at one time active Catholics and now would like to consider coming back. | | Back to Top | | | | Parish Resource Center | | | | This growing library of print and media resources, housed in the vestibule of the church, is available for browsing and borrowing on the part of all parishioners. Donations of Catholic books and resources continue to build this collection of materials which help individuals reflect on and deepen their understanding of Catholic life, Catholic values, and Catholic history. The resource center is open before and after all weekend Masses and any time the parish offices are open. With the opening of the new school in August 2007, the school media center will house a senior reader section open to all parish adults. | | Back to Top | | | |
